The rain is gone, so I walked

We had some pretty gnarly rains here over the weekend. Looking at the news tonight, it appears that all of Nashville flooded, even the Opryland Hotel lobby! That's pretty crazy, in my book.

Today was supposed to be pretty overcast and rainy as well. At least, that's what they said yesterday. Instead it turned out to be a gorgeous day. Decent heat (maybe 80 deg F) and lots of sun. It became necessary to leave work a little early and go for a walk!

I headed to North Boundary Trail Greenway off of the Oak Ridge Turnpike. I needed a little variety. Anyway, I only walked for a couple of miles. Still trying to take it easy after Saturday. Plus, it was still very wet, and I managed to get my shoes somewhat soaked roughly a mile in. I didn't think it would be a great idea to walk a whole lot more in wet shoes. I snapped something like 150 shots, but didn't get a whole lot of great ones. I will say that the place was infested with these buggers:

That's a Red-Spotted Purple butterfly. Weird name, right? It turns out that it's the same species as the White Admiral. I think it's kinda cool you can have such variation just among a particular species.

They were incredibly hard to photograph - very nervous and impossible to get close to. The image above is really a crop (maybe 25% of the original) that was taken with my longest lens. It's still not very great quality, but it will do.

Other notable images include:

Pale blue-eyed grass:

Common Fleabane (as far as I can tell, at least):

Hit up the album for the rest of the semi-decent pictures. There were a ton of cool spiders, but I don't seem to have come away with any pictures that were in reasonable focus. It was relatively windy, and of course the webs were moving around a lot.
