More yellow-ness

Another little yellow flower.

Look at the pollen!

And yet another likely-escapee ...

It feels like the trout lilies were out really early this year!

Flora, fauna, and fun

Another closeup of some bloodroot.  I enjoy the little shiny highlights on the petals.

This robin was just hanging out, being cool.

I find the composition of this photo neat - two bloodroot blossoms flanking a not-quite-ready trillium.

Another shiny yellow flower.

What are these??  They may be an introduced species...

Pretty!

Some more bloodroot...

I really like the detail on this

Toothwort... I think.

The first spring wildflowers!

These just happen to be from a month ago, taken during a short hike around Ijams.

Ok, I lied.  The first photo is just the small frog pond near one of the parking lots.

Playing with the lack of color while photographing bloodroot.

I can't ever remember what these are called.  I don't think they're native wildflowers, though.  I only ever see them in this one area of Ijams.

Lovely bloodroot.

Looking closer, the petal pattern on this one is more symmetric than a lot of others!

Spring means lots of flower photos!

I took a short hike along the Chestnut Top trail today to do some spring wildflower photography.  Here are the first couple of samples.  A Spring Beauty, and a nice little cluster of Dwarf Crested Irises.

Some images from Boston

Just a very colorful scarf stand in Boston Common

TheCousin and I found these somewhere... I think maybe at York beach.

Now for a couple of PAX photos.  Someone smarter than me will have to identify these folks.

Looking out over the showroom floor.  Big monster.  Many people.

Hike down to White Oak Sinks

Today was a great day for a hike - not too sunny, and just warm enough so that you don't get chilled if you keep moving.  I decided to pack up the new photo gear and try out some wildflower photos down at the Sinks.  On the way up, there weren't really many flowers blooming - just a few violets and a couple of other random things.

After branching to the Sinks trail, there were at least some Hepatica and one or two Bloodroot in bloom.  I met a couple of ladies who told me that it looked like "fairyland" down in the Sinks, but I didn't quite believe them, given the lack of flowers up until that point.  Of course, this is what I was met by once I got down there:

I guess it's hard to make out unless you zoom in, but the forest floor was pretty much covered with Spring Beauties, for the most part.  Some other flowers showed up as well, like this lone bloodroot.

Just a couple of other photos tonight - I'm tired and not going through all 200 shots I took.  This is one of the nicer Spring Beauty shots.  Keep in mind that this particular bloom is probably no more than 1.5cm wide.

There were also some Phlox out.  I don't particularly like how the flowers themselves photograph, but I thought this proto-flower looked pretty cool in its wrapped state. The color is a lot more vibrant and purple than most of the Phlox that had bloomed.

Alright, that's it for now.

A little more spring

Playing a little bit with selective color here.  I don't think I like how it turned out though.

This poor pipe was left on top of the poop mitten box.

Woohoo, macro insects!
