Z Bend sand

There were some interesting sand formations down in the gorge.

Hutt Lagoon

On the way up to Kalbarri, we stopped briefly at Hutt Lagoon.  I'd never seen a pink lake before, and it was a really interesting experience.  The plants were almost all succulents, and unsurprisingly, there were very few birds.  I guess they don't like salt!

The water levels seemed low to me - this was mostly mud.  Click for the larger, wicked awesome, panorama.

A little better look at the pinkness of the lake, and the types of plants on the shore.  The lake looked more pink in person.

One of the things I love about gulls and other seabirds - they are great at gliding slowly and making my job easy!

Morning in Horrocks

I got out of bed before everyone else on our first morning in Horrocks, so of course I went out to take some photos while the rest of the lazy butts slept :)

I like the red accent on this Kelp Gull's bill.  It might be a Pacific Gull instead ..

Greater Crested Terns.  They remind me of Finding Nemo for some reason.

Dugong

One afternoon back at the vacation stay in Denham, one of the owners came up to us and said that a dugong has been sighted down at one of the docks!  This was pretty exciting for us, as we'd hoped to get to see one!  We didn't get the best view by the time we managed to find the right dock, but it was still neat nonetheless.  Big sea mammals are great.

In the next post, I'll be posting some photos from Horrocks, the smallest "town" we stayed in on our epic journey up the WA coast!  Here's a little teaser...
