That flower is some random coneflower-ish thing from a packet of wildflower seeds I threw into a pot. I love the color of these wee little goldfinches. A slightly different shot, cropped a little closer:
In other awesome news, there's been a hummingbird visiting these flowers as well. In less awesome news, I'm not nearly quick or stealthy enough to grab the camera and get any shots of it before it flits away. Might be time to try the hummingbird feeder again...
So, my other new friend is also pretty awesome! I was looking at my little basil garden yesterday when I spotted something pretty big coming to land on one of the A/C units outside...
Wicked cool! I snapped off a bunch of shots from up on my balcony.
Then I ventured down two floors and outside to see if the lovely bird was still there ... and it was!
I'm extremely happy with the sharpness of my new cheappo 400mm lens. Check out this crop:
So I think it's probably a red-shouldered hawk, but there's also a small chance it's a broad-winged hawk. Gonna check my books later, but I wanted to get some photos up because I'm pretty happy about them :) The background isn't great, but these birds are just so awesome. Between the finch and the hawk, I took something like 320 shots, so I have a ton to pick through.
