Ijams has MOAR BUGS!

As I promised, bumblebees.



I would have liked a slightly faster shutter speed on this one in order to freeze the motion of the wings better, however the flashes don't sync much past 1/250th (this was 1/200th). Still quite cool. Again, these are all hand-held shots. I'm sure I looked pretty foolish chasing around after the damn thing. Hah!




Notice that these photos are all near henbit....



I mentioned the henbit. It turns out that henbit has a very bright orange pollen. I'd seen all these bumblebees and honeybees flying around with ornage faces - I assumed it was marking by a beekeeper (who for some reason also kept bumblebees???) similar to the markings they make on the backs of bees. Doh! Anyway, this is my favorite bug picture from this Ijams trip:
