Random bits

Another weekend is up me. It's just started to unexpectedly rain. Neat.

There's not a lot going on. Got some sweet food at the farmer's market this morning, including some raw sheeps milk gouda that was pretty tasty when I sampled it, local organic raspberries, and some extremely tasty tomato-basil pasta sauce from a new vendor. This particular fellow had all manner of things, including homemade ravioli and a variety of homemade sauce. I also got some Bolognese which he claimed had almost 3/4lb of meat in the 1lb tub of sauce. We shall see!

Anyway, the real point of this update was to share a couple of photos I snapped this morning. Again, this set is definitely a lot more informational than cool looking. First, my dinner as of 8am:

This is an excellent crock pot roast I've made a couple of times before. It's super-easy, just chop up some carrots, onions, nd celery, brown a roast, throw it all in the crock pot along with some tomatoes and seasonings, cook for 10-12 hours and you're left with a super-yummy roast that lasts for days on end.

Wow, the sky really just opened up. So much for the sunny day we were promised.

Anyway, the full recipe for dinner can be found here. I don't think I've made any modifications other than using almost double the amount of veggies to make it feel a bit healthier. I think I'll probably make some rosemary roasted potatoes with fresh rosemary from the deck along with some thyme I got from my wonderful earlier this week. Probably with some Portuguese dinner rolls I picked up at the Fresh Market.

Speaking of the garden, here are some quick snaps from this morning. First off, the might Habanero!

It's been doing extremely well. I think I picked it up at the farmer's market 2 or 3 weeks ago, and it's thrived on the deck. I'm definitely going to have far more Habaneros than I can use. Next up, Jalapeno #1 and the Poblano:

The jalapenos aren't performing as well as I might have liked, but I think I'll have at least enough for a batch or two of salsa. Yum!

Finally, a slightly out-of-focus shot of the the banana peppers, green bell #1, red bell, and green bell #2 plants:

There are quite a few shriveled up buds/flowers on the bell peppers. I suspect I let them go at day too long without watering :( Still, with bell peppers normally at $1.50 each, if I get 2 peppers from each plants I'm ahead of the game. I think that's it for now. Peace.
