Today's house hunting, part I

Well, I finally got out again and looked at some houses with my realtor today. Shameless plug - Leanna has been great to work with (and comes highly recommended from another friend as well).  If you're in the market to buy or sell, give her a call.

I think I'm starting to get a much better feel for what I like and what I'm  looking for - overall, today's houses rated higher than the last batches I saw a month or two ago.  I'm going to break this post up, as I apparently also became more comfortable taking photos of other people's homes... I think I took on the order of 130 photos, and we only visited 6 properties!

Also, apologies for some of the photo quality.

House A:
I think House A was my least favorite of the day.  It's located in a secluded cul-de-sac, and has great privacy, but the lot is very hilly, and while I like the fact that it has a ton of trees, I dislike that roughly 1/4 acre of the 1 acre lot is usable.

Living area looking into formal dining:

Pretty good sized porch:

Hard to illustrate the slanty yard:

Crack in the foundation :(

Nice little breakfast nook:

Garage was OK too:

The kitchen had some weird angles, but the cabinets were nice

Cozy stove

Formal dining, lots of natural light:

Twisty stairs!

Bluuuuue bonus room over the garage (it's actually a lot brighter than this):

A bath:

Bedrooms:

View from top of the stairs:

Weird little half-bath right beside the front door.

Outside:

Again, steeper than it looks:

So, that was House A.  Not on my list of ones worth seeing again.

However, now we come to House B!  House B is a tri-level, which I hadn't been in before.  It's also amazing ly cheap, less than $66/sqft.  The location isn't my favorite, but it's far from terrible.  I took something like 50 photos here, don't think I'll post them all, I'll just give a link to the album in my final post.  Just so there's no cheating.

The front yard was very well kept and has good curb appeal:

The living room and kitchen are on the "main" level.  I like the vaulted ceiling, really opens up the space.

The cabinets were sturdy.  The only thing I didn't like about the kitchen is the placement of the stove.  I don't  seem to have gotten a good photo, but instead of being along the edge of the kitchen, it's at the end of the island!

I believe there's also one bedroom/office on the main level.  The "lower" level is pretty basement-like, but very expansive.  I think it's about as big as my current apartment, if not 25-50% larger!  Lots of natural light coming in, too.

Now, outside to the back yard.  It's nice, very private, but still has a few trees.  It's also already got some box-gardens built!

Again, very well kept.  The deck area is pretty big, good for entertaining.

There are a couple of problems, however.  The glazing in this window is busticated:

And the siding looks to be the original wood, and there's some amount of water damage:

Back inside, there's a nice little laundry area on the lower level - it's important to note that it's only 6 or 7 steps down here, so not unreasonable to haul clothes up and down.

The garage is a bit on the small side, but there's a ginormous unfinished storage area on the other side of the house:

On to the upper level, we have ourselves some bedrooms!  These two are a little weird, the second photo is the walkway between the two.  They also have doors to the main house.  But no door between.

Mmmmmm built-in bookshelves!

Master BR is hugenormous, although the carpet will need to be replaced.

Also a nice little screened-ion porch.  The doors need some work, though:

Last few random shots:

Neat little skylight.  Only one seems to still be open to the light though...

Ok, that's all for this post.  Maybe some more tonight, otherwise I'll finish them up tomorrow.
